As we all know, the flags are the symbols of the states and the nations. They represent the traditions and the cultures of the states and nation. You cannot find even a single meaningless part in a flag. The patterns and colors have their own meaning and convey a unique meaning. The American flag is not an exception to this. When we speak about American flags we need to consider their history, symbolism, colors and design.

The American flags are of high importance to the Americans. All the Fifty states have their own flags to symbolize their own culture and tradition. The American flag was first introduced and approved on June 14, 1777 with only 13 stars and 13 strips in red and white colors. This flag remained unchanged till the year 1795. Since then the flag started to undergo many changes. As already mentioned the flag consists of red and white colors, red stands for the bravery while the white color stands for purity and peace. The blue color in the flag points the sky showing respect to the God.

Colors are very important in the flag as they carry meaning in them. When we consider from the color perspective the different American flags have different meaning. Let us consider the flag of Arizona it contains 13 red and yellow rays representing the sun and the 13 American colonies while the copper colored star placed in the center of the flag indicates the presence of copper mining in Arizona. Similarly in the Colorado's flag the white part stands for the snow covered mountain part and the red color stands for the availability of the red soil. The blue color and the yellow color in the flag signify the sky and the sun respectively.

On 4th July 1960 the present version of the flag with 50 stars was introduced. The American flag is often called as "Old Glory and the star-spangled banner" which is also the title of the national anthem of America. The 50 stars in the flag symbolize the 50 states and hence the starred blue canton often called as union.
